"The Ethics of the IDF - An Evening with Joel Chasnoff" November 6th, 7:30 PM
Join for a discussion with former IDF soldier Joel Chasnoff in which we explore the complexity of IDF moral dilemmas. Participants will receive a double-sided, full-color PDF that includes the core text of the IDF’s Purity of Arms, real-life dilemmas faced by IDF soldiers, and relevant Torah passages that form the ethical backbone of these discussions
The aim isn't to convince anyone that the Israeli army is the most moral in the world—although Joel personally believes it is. Instead, it's about exploring just how complex these moral dilemmas are, showing that Israel takes these ethical questions seriously, and illustrating how Jewish values guide the way Israel conducts itself in times of conflict.
We'll hit on current issues, too - like how Israel makes calculations when deciding whether or not to bomb hospitals and ambulances, as well as what international military law says about these kinds of operations.
There’s plenty of time for Q&A and discussion, and people often leave with as many new questions as answers, which is exactly the point. It’s all about having a meaningful, open conversation with no agenda other than honest dialogue.
Joel brings his own experience as a former IDF combat soldier, and as the dad of a soldier serving near Gaza now.
